TUTORIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
T1 Jan 14
Definition and properties of divisibility and the greatest common divisor.
Page 17 exercises 5-8,11-13,15, 20-22, 24
A few 'focus' exercises from that list: 5, 6, 12, 15, 21, 24.
T2 Jan 21
A few "focus" exercises from p17-19: 1(d), 3(d), 4(a), 17/18/19, 25/26, 27, 29
Most of the exercises are worth doing (up to 35 at least), and assignment or test questions may be chosen from some these.
T3 Jan 28
We have finished 1.3 and most of the question up to #33 are worth doing. A few "focus" exercises: p18: #28, 29 (use section 1.3 to solve, not section 1.2);
p28-31: #3, 5, 11, 12, 16, 19, 27.
You should eventually look at all of 1 through 33.
#22 should be reviewed when you are preparing for the first Test.
T4 Feb 04
Section 2.1
You should eventually look at all of 1 through 43, 49, 50, 51, 53.
For today: 1-15, 28-33, 34--37.
A few 'focus' questions: 2, 5, 13, 15, 28, 33.
T5 Feb 11
Term Test 1
T6 Feb 25
Suggested exercises: Section 2.2, 1–10.
You can expect questions like the parts of 5 and 6 on the next test or the final exam.

Suggested exercises: Section 2.3.
There are many good exercises here: 1–8, 9–13, 14–17,
18–24 (the starred exercises are more challenging, but reasonable to attempt), 25–36.
Here are a few problems to focus on: 7, 9, (10 + 11), 14, 18, 25, 32, 34.
T7 Mar 04
Continue work on Section 2.3.
Section 2.4 is not part of the course.
Section 2.5. There is a variant of Problem 1 on the assignment; this involves directly applying the method described in this section, and we can't give you any further hints. We did most of Problem 2, and Problem 3. 4 and 5 are worth looking at, but a little challenging.
We will see our first significant examples for Section 5.1 in class on Monday. Problems 1, 2, 6–12 are all reasonable based on what we did last week.
Focus problems in Section 5.1: 1, 6, 7, 9, 10.
T8 Mar 11
Suggested exercises: Section 5.1.
There are many good exercises here: All of 1–15 are worth doing (13 to 15 are somewhat harder).
Here are a few problems to focus on: 3a, 4a, 4f, 5.
Some of 6–12 will be done in class.

Section 5.2: Most of these are long, hard problems. But you should certainly work through #1 and #2.
T9 Mar 18
Term Test 2
T10 Mar 25
You can continue work on Section 5.2.
Section 5.3: Question 2 is on the assignment. The rest of questions 1–12 are good. Some 'focus questions': 3, 4, 8, 10.
Section 2.8; All the questions up to 18 are reasonable. A few 'focus' questions: p106, 3, 6, 8, 9, 11.
T11 April 05 FRIDAY in class
Quadratic reciprocity:
Section 3.1, p135, 4–15, (some of the problems high in the list are challenging!). Section 3.2, p140, 1–11.
Focus exercises: p135, 7, 8, 10, 11. p140, (some parts of 4, 5), 8, 10.
Arithmetic functions:
Section 4.2, p191, 1–20.
Section 4.3, p195, 1–3, 5–8. We did 1, 2, 3, 6 in class. 18 is easy using the various convolution formulas that we have proved.
Focus exercises: p191, 3, 7, 10, 11, 14; p195, 5, 7, 8.
April 08
NO TUTORIALS DURING THE FINAL 3 DAYS OF LECTURES!
