Left-orderable groups and countable Borel equivalence relations
Abstract:

This talk will introduce the two objects in the title, and explain how there is a surprisingly straightforward way of creating a countable Borel equivalence relation from a left-orderable group. From there, I will discuss recent efforts to figure out what the heck is going on — what sorts of Borel equivalence relations can arise from this construction, and whether or not the kind of group you start with says anything about the kind of countable Borel equivalence relation that you end up with.

This is joint work with Filippo Calderoni.
