| Abstract:
In this basic level talk we discuss the notion of an algebra which is central to the field of algebra. We discuss how this notion arises naturally from the concepts of a function on a variety and operators on a space and explain what is meant by a representation of an algebra or a group. We discuss the representations for the Weyl algebra, quantum torus and the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{sl}(2, C)\). This talk is will be accessible by students as well as non-algebraists. |
