Model Theory for Algebraic Geometry?
Abstract:

I will give two lectures on the paper The model completion of the theory of modules over finitely generated commutative algebras by Moshe Kamensky (based on his PhD work). The paper may be obtained from the Mathematics ArXiv: math.LO/0607418.

I will explain some of the basic model-theoretic ideas being explored here; what the particular results are for the theory in question; why they are interesting both in logic and in algebra; and why they can be thought of as the beginnings of a model theory for algebraic geometry.

I will try to do all of this in two lectures!

Dr Chipalkatti has also expressed interest in talking about this material, and we may hear more about the algebraic geometry later on in the term
